Our Work With Medical and Counseling Needs

First established in 1978, Sri Lanka’s Free Trade Zone now employs more than 100,000 young people predominantly in clothing factories. Seventy-five percent of the workers are women between 20 and 30 years old, mostly from small villages in rural areas. These workers endure living and working conditions that are difficult and often dangerous to their emotional and physical health. In the Free Trade Zone, it is not unusual for there to be 200 emergency calls in a single day, many related to emotional crises. While the quality of medical care in Sri Lanka is good, availability is extremely limited. Treatment for mental or emotional problems is non-existent.

Counseling and Medical Center

To meet these needs, Resplendent Hope is building a building a medical/counseling facility near the Katunayake Free Trade Zone. Through a team of trained psychologists that travel annually to Sri Lanka, Resplendent Hope has also begun training counselors that will support the centre.

Expected to be completed in early 2012, the medical/counseling center will serve thousands who are in need of medical and emotional care.
