This small island off the southwest coast of India is home to 20 million people who have endured unparalleled hardship. Racked by civil war since the 1980s, on December 26, 2004 it became one of the countries most devastated by the Boxing Day Tsunami. Once known as India’s pearl because of its natural beauty, it is now called India’s teardrop.
In keeping with its vision of identifying the most vibrant local leaders, officers of Resplendent Hope visited Sri Lanka in 2005 and were blessed to find Adrian DeVisser, a pastor and local leader. Pastor Adrian has tirelessly campaigned to cure the devastation suffered by his homeland.
Resplendent Hope is working with Pastor Adrian to build homes for orphans, girls at risk, women in peril and a large medical/counseling center, as well as supporting vocational training.
Adrian DeVisser is founder of the Kithu Sevana Church movement in Sri Lanka. He has established vocational centers and places for the poor to obtain food at deeply discounted prices. He also established a center for the widows, which both houses the widows and their children and teaches widows and men a vocation to provide for their family.
In addition, Adrian has started a home for girls redeemed from sexual, emotional and physical abuse, young boys and girls orphanages as well as building more than 250 homes for those who lost theirs, provided food, bedding and basic necessities to thousands.
Adrian is Deputy Director in charge of South Asia for the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism and is Vice President for Partnership Development for Asian Access.
